With five months to go until UK Coffee Week begins, we go back to basic to look at what we do – and why.
Bringing Clean Water to Coffee-Growing Communities.
Top of the list of priorities for coffee shop operators is the best coffee machine for the job, and quality coffee. Yet water makes up to 98% of a cup of coffee, so it shouldn’t be ignored. With high quality, filtered water you can taste the difference in the flavour and aroma of your coffee. And it increases the lifecycle of your coffee machine by preventing limescale build-up, so it’s good for the environment too.
Looks like it’s that time of the year again, we hope everyone’s ready! Summer came and went, and before you know it you’re sat inside with the heating on, a cup of coffee to hand and a Christmas playlist that you haven't changed since 2003 playing through your speakers.

This year, UK Coffee Week raised money for a venture based in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, a partnership project between Project Waterfall and our delivery partner, WaterAid. This project aims to reach 24,500 people by 2018 in one rural and one urban ward of Chelia District (liben Gamo and Babich Town) and one rural ward of the Toke Kutaye district (Toke Kombolcha).
We've teamed up with Cephas Azariah to bring you this photo-journal of Timberyard, one of our amazing supporters for UK Coffee Week.
Timberyard, a London based cafe, described by their team as a “dynamic, independent creative workspace fused with speciality tea and coffee”, will be hosting a number of different events for UK Coffee Week. Darren Elliott, the man behind Timberyard, has been an avid supporter of UK Coffee Week and Project Waterfall in the past and is spearheading the events put on this year. Timberyard currently has three locations -TY Soho, TY Seven Dials in Central London, and TY Old Street in East London - and all three shops will be participating in UK Coffee Week.
On Tuesday 25 November, the UK Coffee Week team met up with one of our biggest supporters, The Coffee Works Project, at their store on Islington High Street. Catching up with Joanna and Peter gave us the perfect opportunity to reminisce about their involvement in UK Coffee Week and discuss their future ideas for 2015 (which we cannot wait to see!).
On Wednesday, 29 October, the UK Coffee Week team sat down with Sydney Kelly, co-founder of the Tower 47 coffee shop on Chalk Farm Road in Camden for a Q&A session. In this session, we discussed the launch of Tower 47, their coffee, being a business owner, and UK Coffee Week 2015. Sydney's passionate, energetic and outgoing personality shined through the conversation as we sat in the eclectic cafe with a cup of delicious coffee.
